Charlene Lui
Charlene Lui has a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and completed doctoral courses in multicultural education and English as a second language. Charlene began her educational career teaching high school. She also worked at a private school for several years. She began her career in Granite School District in 1996 where she has been an Assistant Principal at Eisenhower Junior High School and Copper Hills Elementary, and Principal at Monroe Elementary. Charlene retired in July 2021 after serving for twenty years as the Director of Educational Equity in the Granite School District. She is also an adjunct instructor at Salt Lake Community College and owner of Lui Educational Consulting. Recently, she was appointed the Interim Executive Director of NAME (National Association for Multicultural Education).
Charlene is a strong advocate for equity, social justice and the advancement of multicultural education. She was a two-year member of the Utah State Board of Education and past chair for CMAC (Coalition of Minorities Advisory Committee appointed by the Utah State Board of Education). Charlene is a nationally certified senior level REACH (Respecting Ethnic and Cultural Heritage) trainer, and current ACLU of Utah board member. Charlene received the Exemplary Educator for Diversity Award in 2005, the Cesar Chavez Peace and Social Justice Award in 2011, the Martin Luther King Drum Major Award in 2013, the MLK Humanitarian Award from SLCC in 2014, and the Human Rights Award from the Utah School Counselors in 2014.
